Discovering how sustainability, adventure and great-tasting products come together for Grain de Sail

Grain de Sail has arrived safely in New York after its transatlantic crossing. Not only is it a cargo sailboat, but it is also a true raison d'être behind the company of the same name based in Brittany, France. Audencia alumnus Stefan Gallard (MBA 13), CMO of Grain de Sail, is currently in New York to welcome the crew, the boat and her cargo. He will be taking this opportunity to share the details of the who, why and how behind this incredible adventure:
For those who are unable to make either date, alumni Kamelys Say and Mathias Van Der Meij (both GE 20) will be filming the New York visit and interviewing Stefan as part of their portrait series for"Les égarés du canapé", a world tour of environmental and social initiatives by Audencia alumni.
About Grain de Sail
Grain de Sail was founded in 2010 in Brittany by twin brothers who are experts in renewable energy. At that time, they shared the same bold vision: select, produce and sell great gastronomic products to cross-Atlantic consumers using the world's first modern cargo sailboat. The brothers opened their first coffee roasting facility in 2013, followed by a chocolate factory in 2016 with the ultimate goal of getting the cargo sailboat ready for 2020. In October 2018, Grain de Sail launched the construction of the first transatlantic cargo sailboat and its maiden voyage took place in 2020.
While the initial project was to import organic cocoa and coffee from Central America and the Caribbean to France, they first had to leave France to cross the Atlantic. This is why, in 2016, they launched Grain de Sail Wines, making the cargo sailboat the first ever purpose-built floating wine cellar.

Grain de Sail is also the name of the cargo sailboat that left Brittany on 4 November 2021 to cross the Atlantic with 10,000 bottles of organic wine on board. The crew have arrived safely with their precious cargo in New York and will be met by Grain de Sail's CMO, Stefan Gallard.
