Go Germany! The language barrier does exist, although most Germans are quite understanding

About Didier: GRADUATED FROM THE MASTER IN MANAGEMENT (GRANDE ECOLE) PROGRAMME IN 2017 FROM FRANCE CURRENT POSITION: TEAM LEAD SALES PLANNER AT PORSCHE AG IN STUTTGART NATIVE LANGUAGE: FRENCH DAILY WORKING LANGUAGES: GERMAN OTHER LANGUAGES SPOKEN: ENGLISH GERMAN LEVEL: EXPERT BEEN LIVING IN GERMANY FOR: 7 YEARS Didier's key message: “The language barrier does exist, although most Germans are quite understanding" My biggest challenge Being an expat in a country that is not that far from France makes it convenient to come back frequently but it can also be a challenge in this context to make good, long-term friendships if you’re often in France. Stuttgart is only 3 hours from Paris by train, yet this proximity has a downside: you don’t get the 100% full-expat experience. Myths and realities MYTH The Germans work more than the French. REALITY Integration at work is not always easy due to the language barrier. Salaries are slightly higher than in France, especially in the car industry. My advice & top tips There are many opportunities for internships and jobs in Germany. At Porsche, for example, we're always looking for new interns and we're ready to hire good people. You just need to be able to express yourself in German and to give your best. Quirky & cultural “Weißwurstfrühstück” at work. A very special way to kickstart a day… And finally... Go Germany! "Give your children roots and they will grow wings" (Goethe)

As the economic powerhouse of Europe, known for placing a strong emphasis on efficiency, environmental awareness and a good work-life balance, Germany stands out as a compelling choice for all those in pursuit of an international career, and we are excited to help you discover the opportunities it offers. “Go Germany!” is a valuable resource for students and recent graduates wishing to head to Germany after their studies at Audencia. This week, discover what Eugénie Marguet from France has to say. About Eugénie: GRADUATED FROM THE MASTER IN MANAGEMENT (GRANDE ECOLE) PROGRAMME IN 2019 FROM FRANCE CURRENT POSITION: CONSULTANT EQUITY SERVICES MANAGER AT SIEMENS AG IN MUNICH NATIVE LANGUAGE: FRENCH DAILY WORKING LANGUAGES: GERMAN AND ENGLISH GERMAN LEVEL: EXPERT BEEN LIVING IN GERMANY FOR: 3 YEARS Eugénie's key message: "Give your children roots and they will grow wings" (Goethe) My biggest challenge I moved to Munich and started working for Siemens in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. At that time, I was working remotely all week: it was not easy to start a new job in a new company and a new country under these circumstances. There are always a lot of things to discover when you start, and human connections help a lot with this. Myths and realities MYTH: Even if we have a good work-life balance, in my company we do not start the weekend on Friday at noon! REALITY: Work efficiency is very important and well considered in Germany. You don't go to work to put in the hours, you go to work to get things done. And once you are done with your tasks, you are really encouraged to end your day and go home. My advice & top tips I would urge you to learn and speak the language. Even if you work in an English-speaking environment, it is always helpful for your integration to know German (or maybe Bavarian if you come to Munich :)). Quirky & cultural Punctuality is important. Meetings start and end on time, and are usually very efficient! This means that you must be very pragmatic and well prepared to achieve your goal. If you're late, don't try to gain a few minutes by crossing the road at a red light! You would be the only one who dared, and you will probably get a few comments from the people around you. And finally... Pfiat di! (Which means Goodbye in Bavarian)! Follow this link to read Go Germany in full
