Bringing students together, sharing a sense of pride – organising ICF, the intercultural festival

Prathiba Koorapati Lakshmipathy, IMM 19, arrived at Audencia last September and in the first few weeks attended an information session about ICF, Audencia’s annual intercultural festival organised by students. “At first I just wanted to volunteer to do some dancing” she says, ”but very soon I got involved in planning the event itself and ended up organising the event". The biggest challenge was convincing fellow students to work for the event. “As I am new to Audencia and its culture, it was difficult for me to reach out people" Prathiba says. "I was lucky to have the support of the school", she continues. Prathiba stresses that the success of the event is not hers alone and give a special mention to fellow student Arjun Carmelino. When the big day came Prathiba was quite relaxed and even had time to enjoy herself. She spent time going round the stands and talking to participants. For Prathiba, the highlight was definitely the salsa dancing. “Seeing students from so many different nationalities all dancing together felt really good – a great achievement”.
Prathiba hopes to come to ICF again next year, just before she graduates. “For the 2018 edition, I would love to see more acts and more involvement from French students” she says.

International communities in Tel-Aviv and Amsterdam
Two new international communities have just been set up. Tel-Aviv Ambassador Delphine Grouckho (GE 15) is Media Manager at PrimeRoll in Tel-Aviv and is looking forward to creating connections with the small community of Audencia alumni in the city but also to linking up with wider networks in the area. "It would be great if we could include alumni from the alliance [Centrale Nantes and ensa Nantes] in our events" she says. Join the Tel-Aviv community on Together! Amsterdam Ambassador Matthieu Vonthron (GE 05) is a Manager at Deloitte in Amsterdam and has been thinking about launching the alumni community for several months. ICF, creating new traditions
In her speech as newly elected IMM class ambassador at the international programme graduation ceremony last November, Kateryna Diadenko from the Ukraine, looked back over the past year. “I am so proud” she said “of the legacy our IMM class is leaving behind. We have created a tradition that brings people together at Audencia.” Kateryna was talking about the InterCultural Festival (ICF), which she and her IMM classmates helped bring about, for the first time in November 2016 and for the second time in November 2017. Supported by the IMM programme management team, Audencia Careers, Audencia Alumni and international staff at Audencia, the idea of an event that embraces the school’s diversity has been in people’s minds for many years. Careers consultant and Audencia alumna Shyla du Cosquer remembers her time at Audencia saying “During my studies at Audencia, I really felt that we needed a cross-cultural event to bring people together from all programmes and all horizons. I am so pleased to see IMM students taking up the challenge and organising a fantastic event for everyone”. At Audencia since September 2017, newcomer Dan Evans, Audencia’s Director of Programmes, discovered ICF for the first time and joined in providing entertainment with a spelling bee. “It was interesting to see which words were difficult for non-native English speakers to spell. Definitely words such as indict and weird”, says Nancy, an IMM student who participated in ICF. With nearly 250 students for its first edition and 350 for the second, ICF is committed to celebrating cultural diversity in all its aspects. - 1er DECEMBRE - Hélène de VESTELE (GE 15) Fondatrice d'Edeni Offrez-vous les ateliers Edeni en cliquant ici " Le Zero Waste passe par un quotidien sans déchets, ni gâchis. Le meilleur déchet est celui qui n’existe pas. L’important n’est pas de transformer un déchet en ressource, mais vraiment de ne pas gâcher notre vie, nos opportunités, notre bonheur. Tout comme nous sommes ambitieux pour nos carrières professionnelles, n’ayons pas peur d’être ambitieux pour faire les choses bien." C'est décidé, Hélène souhaite changer le monde. Pas dans 20 ans... maintenant ! C'est comme cela qu'elle crée les ateliers Edeni qui offrent les clés, les secrets de cette métamorphose à portée de chacun, dans notre quotidien. Cette ancienne conseillère du gouvernement argentin nous en dit plus en images : Les prémices d'une vie engagée Dès les classes préparatoires, je savais que je voulais participer à l’amélioration de nos sociétés. A Audencia, je découvre une école qui accorde une grande place à l’associatif (et donc à l’exécution concrète de projets). En parallèle de la gestion du BDE, je crée un projet au sein d’ENACTUS (1ere association étudiante mondiale d’entrepreneuriat social) de tourisme responsable, tout en préparant mon Année de Projet Individuel, cette opportunité incroyable qu’offre la Business School pour celles et ceux qui ont un projet solide et besoin de temps pour le réaliser. Grâce au parcours RSE-WWF , j'identifie ce que je veux : découvrir les façons de vivre responsables à travers le monde. Rencontres étudiantes, concours, sac à dos : je pars un an explorer le monde. La nécessité d'un monde 'plus propre' Lors de ce tour du monde sur la découverte des modes de vie responsables, sur 150 foyers dans plus de 60 pays, j'ai réalisé à quel point nos déchets sont un problème en voyant les décharges à ciel ouvert. En Amérique Latine, alors conseillère auprès du ministre de la Modernisation, j'ai ressenti l’urgence d’agir en voyant tous les experts environnementaux boire dans des bouteilles d’eau en plastique lors d’une commission pour le G7. C’était toujours le même constat : prévoir des projets sur 20 ans alors qu’il y a tellement de choses à notre portée au niveau écologique, social et éthique à faire maintenant. Il ne s’agit plus d’être circulaire juste sur le cycle de vie d’un produit, il faut l’être dans toute la société. Le triple constat à l’échelle individuelle - Le manque de connaissances des alternatives, des start-ups, des associations, des médias indépendants qui relaient ces initiatives, des astuces DIY comme faire de beaux furoshiki (papiers cadeaux en tissu japonais), etc. - Le manque de confiance de ces alternatives (leur efficacité est-elle prouvée ? si oui, pourquoi on ne les utilisait pas avant ?). De plus, beaucoup de blogs ne mettent pas leurs sources et certaines personnes peuvent être de bonne foi mais avec une méthode qui manque de rigueur. - Le manque d’accompagnement pour connaître et pratiquer le Zero Waste, alors qu’il existe des coachs pour arrêter de fumer ou se mettre au sport par exemple. Le Paradis sur Terre dans un bocal d’1L Toujours en Amérique Latine, j'ai particulièrement été touchée par le concept de la Pachamama, cette figure inca qui représente la déesse-terre pour de nombreuses cultures sud-américaines. Pour eux, le paradis est maintenant, sur Terre, du temps de notre vivant en tant qu’individu, et tout le monde doit prendre soin de notre planète et agir avec bienveillance les uns envers les autres. C’est ainsi que j'ai eu l’idée de créer edeni, du mot « éden » qui signifie le Paradis sur Terre, et qui se prononce facilement dans toutes les langues. En effet, edeni a d’abord été lancé en Argentine sous la forme d’une association pour diffuser les bonnes pratiques Zero Waste. Cela a été une vraie transformation pour moi qui ai réussi à limiter mes déchets à un bocal d’1L en un an ! En recevant le prix « Talent d’Avenir » aux Audencia Alumni Awards 2017, j'ai alors démissionné du gouvernement argentin pour lancer edeni en France.
