Steve Dalton hosts a webinar on how to answer the "why" question in job interviews

Throughout the recruitment process, and in every job interview, you run into “Why?” questions: Why this industry? This company? This role? Most of us struggle to answer well, leaving recruiters unsure about our fit and motivation. In this webinar, Steve Dalton (author of The 2-Hour Job Search and more recently The Job Closer) explains why these innocuous “Why?” questions matter so much, why normal “low content” responses don’t work and how to answer in a way that reassures your interviewer and distinguishes you from other candidates. Steve’s RAC formula (Reason-Anecdote-Connection) allows you to use Why questions to your advantage by telling a unique story that connects you to a potential employer. Clichés VS Réalités : les diplômés d’Audencia témoignent sur l’entreprise

Les 5 et 6 mai, les étudiants d’Audencia ont pu échanger avec des diplômés évoluant au sein des entreprises les plus attractives de France. L’événement, baptisé « Clichés VS Réalités », s'est tenu en format distanciel. Parce que les clichés ont souvent la vie dure, Audencia a proposé un nouveau rendez-vous à ses étudiants les 5 et 6 mai pour déconstruire certaines idées reçues sur un secteur, un métier, une entreprise. « Clichés VS Réalités : les diplômés témoignent » a ainsi proposé 3 tables rondes virtuelles regroupant 14 diplômés. Ils travaillent chez Air France, Decathlon, Nexity, ou encore à la Banque de France, entre autres, et ont tous en commun le fait d’évoluer au sein d’entreprises françaises et internationales parmi les plus attractives de France, selon divers classements recensant les entreprises préférées des étudiants d’écoles de commerce. Des entreprises qui font rêver, qui alimentent aussi parfois certains fantasmes, et que la Direction des Relations Entreprises et Diplômés d’Audencia souhaite présenter « de l’intérieur » à ses étudiants, à travers le témoignage de ceux qui y œuvrent chaque jour. En somme, les mieux placés pour parler du quotidien au sein de ces entreprises de façon authentique. Pour animer ces rendez-vous, Audencia a notamment fait appel à Maximilien Arengi, rédacteur en chef de Business-Cool, média spécialisé sur les écoles de commerce. La première table ronde traitait d'une question clé à l’heure de la Covid-19 : « Le travail de demain : vers un monde du travail totalement virtuel ? ». Un échange qui a permis aux étudiants de découvrir concrètement l’impact d’une pandémie mondiale sur l’organisation du travail et sa mutation accélérée vers le digital ou ses alternatives. Le second rendez-vous a posé la question de l’importance des soft skills (savoir-être) par rapport aux hard skills (savoir-faire). Tandis que la dernière table ronde permet sans détour de confirmer la réalité ou déconstruire certains mythes sur les premiers emplois au sein des grands groupes. Trois rendez-vous qui permettent un nouveau jalon dans la construction du projet professionnel des étudiants, de façon concrète et non idéalisée. L’occasion aussi de construire son réseau professionnel, découvrir les opportunités et les portes qu’il permet d’ouvrir. Cet événement s’ajoute aux nombreux évènements annuels proposés par Audencia au service de la carrière de ses étudiants : forums de recrutements généralistes et sectoriels, présentations métiers, webinars, ateliers thématiques, etc.

Pierre Patouillard, de Nantes à la sixième place financière du monde

Dépasser les idées-reçues et s’aventurer au-delà des évidences et des facilités pour bâtir un chemin professionnel épanouissant sur la durée, c’est ainsi que Pierre Patouillard (GE11) trace les contours de son début de carrière qui l’a conduit de Nantes à Zürich, où il est Talent Acquisition Manager Europe pour GCA Altium. « Chasseur de têtes, pour moi, c’était un métier qu’on démarrait à 50 ans, après avoir longtemps vadrouillé en entreprise et acquis de solides compétences métier » explique-t-il en repensant à ses premiers pas dans le cabinet de recrutement Swisslinx, à la sortie du Master Finances d’Audencia. Pendant quatre ans, il découvre les différentes facettes d’un métier qui le captive immédiatement parce qu’il place l’humain au cœur de son activité quotidienne. « Le métier de Talent Acquisitor est varié, selon le secteur dans lequel on exerce mais aussi les appétences de chacun. Certains sont plus Sales avec des perspectives de carrière vers le business development ; d’autres, plus RH, iront vers la fonction RH classique. Les profils entrepreneurs ont leur place dans les cabinets de chasse mais, avec le développement rapide de la tech RH, les opportunités pour monter son propre projet sont aussi nombreuses. » Pierre rejoint ensuite Leonteq puis le géant UBS, et enfin GCA Altium, une banque d’affaires à taille humaine spécialisée en M&A. Il y travaille en partenariat avec ses clients internes établis dans 12 bureaux en Europe et en Israël, délivrant une prestation de service irréprochable, adaptée aux enjeux du business et aux problématiques de chacun. Sa mission est un pivot, qui doit permettre l’acquisition des meilleures compétences du marché, garantir l’intégration de collaborateurs fidèles et développer l’image employeur de la banque sur chaque marché car « les enjeux diffèrent selon qu’on recrute à Paris, Stockholm, Londres ou Tel Aviv ». Zürich, où il est installé depuis 8 ans, résonne comme une évidence pour Pierre. Sixième place financière du monde, la ville de 420 000 habitants, dont un tiers d’étrangers, présente bien des avantages. Cosmopolite – on y parle suisse-allemand, allemand, anglais et français – et ultra-dynamique, Zürich cultive aussi un art de vivre paisible et proche de la nature, sur les rives de la Limmat et à l’ombre des pentes alpestres. « Amateur de ski et de triathlon, je suis heureux dans cette ville sportive qui se veut très respectueuse des équilibres pro-perso. Il n’y a pas de culture des horaires ici. Tu es jugé sur tes résultats, pas sur ton heure de sortie le soir. Cela me permet de me donner à fond dans mon boulot mais aussi de profiter en dehors. C’est important de trouver cet équilibre pour tenir à long terme. Un parcours réussi, selon moi, c’est un marathon, pas un sprint. » Pierre porte un regard serein sur son début de carrière. Son parcours l’a guidé naturellement à découvrir son véritable profil professionnel et sa préférence pour exercer en entreprise plutôt qu’en cabinet, dans une organisation à taille humaine, pour exprimer ses talents intrapreneuriaux et son goût pour les projets portés de bout en bout. « Les enjeux sociétaux – place des femmes, diversité, digital – sont forts et les talent acquisitors sont en première ligne pour participer à la réponse des entreprises et apporter de véritables solutions stratégiques qui feront bouger les lignes. C’est passionnant. D’ailleurs, la France se positionne bien avec de plus en plus de jeunes filles qui se destinent aux métiers de la finance. Si j’ai un message à adresser aux Audenciennes, c’est celui-là : osez ! Les choses sont en train de changer, il y a de la place et de véritables opportunités pour vous dans la finance de marché. » Pierre conserve d’Audencia le souvenir d’une école offrant de belles opportunités, agile et souple, au service de la réussite des étudiants. Avec les assos, la Junior pour lui, chacun peut affûter ses compétences et les mettre à l’épreuve du réel pour accélérer son développement. Quand on lui demande les conseils qu’il aimerait transmettre à ses pairs, il en retient quatre : Définir rapidement son profil professionnel, savoir si l’on est fait pour une petite ou une grande organisation, cela évite de pédaler à contre-courant de ses valeurs et centres d’intérêt Dessiner une stratégie professionnelle, dès l’école, en sélectionnant les stages pour la qualité de la mission et le niveau d’exposition plutôt que pour le nom de l’entreprise Oser, il faut savoir sortir des sentiers battus Penser à soi, se créer des équilibres pour s’épanouir durablement dans son parcours professionnel. « Le marché de l’emploi Zurichois, avec son chômage quasi-nul, est compétitif et hyper flexible. Les changements de postes peuvent être fréquents, parfois inattendus voire un peu brutaux, mais Zürich est une petite ville où tout le monde se connaît. Le réseau y joue un rôle essentiel. Il faut savoir l’entretenir et le tenir prêt pour que les opportunités soient là au bon moment. C’est comme ça que j’ai évolué jusqu’à présent » conclut Pierre en guise d’ultime conseil.

Career Connections Week : Jour J !

La 3e édition de la Career Connections Week commence aujourd'hui à Audencia, et pour la première fois en virtuel ! Toute la semaine, ce sont plus de 60 alumni qui se mobilisent aux côtés de professionnels d'entreprises et de consultants carrière pour coacher les étudiants du Programme Grande Ecole. Audencia webinar on avoiding and recovering from career derailment

Audencia's Career Centre continues its partnership with Sensible Media in the UK to bring a series of webinars to alumni and students. Starting on 18 November, the first webinar of the season will focus on avoiding and recovering from career derailment. More than 50% of professionals experience career derailment at some point: being fired, demoted, or told we are unpromotable. In this webinar Carter Cast (Professor of Entrepreneurship at Kellogg School of Management) will share his research on why derailment happens, how to avoid it, and how to recover if it does. A standard tenet of career advice is to “know your strengths”. Much less focus is put on helping us diagnose our weaknesses. Very often it is these lingering blind spots and skill gaps that trip us up when we are confronted by a new work environment or a new challenge to surmount. I am a communication & community manager AND a freelance digital journalist. How it all started I always wanted to be a journalist, more specifically, business journalist. I chose to focus my studies in business and management matters. After graduating from Audencia, I wanted to connect the dots between my business background and my vocation and "forever love" for journalism. Pastimes The time I spend with people is very important to me, therefore travelling together, having different activities, or just chlling in a restaurant and bubbling up around a cup of tea is rather a great passtime for me. Most memorable experience The 2016 International Cultural Festival: I was MC and it took place the night before our graduation ceremony. It was a lot of fun: students and professors from different cultures and countries shared and celebrated their uniqueness. Myths & realities Reality: The paperwork, and the switch from the status of being a student to an employee. Myth: Workplace is super serious. Speaking French I am actually bilingual since I was a child as French is widely spoken in Morocco. Amusing story I was working on a video, on my computer, and listening to music. A lady came to our office and I introduced myself and asked her if she wanted to hear the song. Then my manager came to talk to her and later told me the lady was an inspector checking up on me, she said she found me rather funny.
